It is time for yet another monthly top list of slot games online. Results of five weeks are included into our calculations this time, based on our rules. This makes the number of points that the slots have received in October 2016 higher than in September.
As of 2017 we will start presenting average weekly scores in order to give a clearer overview and make it easier to compare monthly slots game performance lists. Furthermore, we have decided to change the coefficient of best Nordic casinos, in order to keep up with the market situation. Mr Green Casino will be promoted up to the top category, while three casinos from the lowest category will be totally removed. This means that the total number of points awarded to slots will remain the same.
Another change that we decided to implement in October 2016 is always using the brand name NextGen instead of NYX or NYX/NextGen throughout our texts. The name of the studio developing the slots is NextGen, while NYX Gaming Group is their parent company, providing various gaming solutions to their B2B-customers.
The confusion around the names comes from the merger between Australian NextGen and Swedish NYX back in 2011. Back then NYX had bingo and, to some extent, slots as its main focus. Since then NYX Gaming Group shifted towards gaming solutions and has acquired Cryptologic, Chartwell and OpenBet – companies with strong slots portfolios. From now on, we will call their slots for NextGen slots, no matter the origin.
Best New Slots in October
Nine new slots titles have managed to reach Top 20 in October. The only supplier of casino games with two new games is Yggdrasil (Empire Fortune jackpot slot and Super Heroes). NetEnt, Microgaming, Thunderkick, Quickspin, ELK Studios, NextGen and IGT have all managed to reach Top of Slots list with their release of the month. New slots from September – Spectra, SuperFlip and Jungle Jim, as well as Secrets of Atlantis and Big Blox, launched back in August, have left the charts.
The surprise of the month is the good performance of Lost Vegas – new zombie slot from Microgaming. Sixth place in monthly Top of Slots is a really good result for the Manx-based company. It seems that MG is slowly improving the quality of their slots. Jungle Jim that launched earlier this year was a relative success, too.
Super Heroes from Yggdrasil is our personal favorite. This game has plenty of great features, a cool story behind the game and top-notch design. We are a bit surprised that it ended up seventh.
Swedish ELK Studios and Quickspin launch their new slots less frequently than their competitors – every second month. In October we got introduced to Wild Toro from ELK and Dragon Shrine from Quickspin that is now a part of Playtech. While Wild Toro is on its way of becoming the most played ever launched by ELK, Dragon Shrine is a flop.
Fairytale Legends NetEnt Slot
The best new slot of the month is Fairytale Legends: Red Riding Hood from Swedish NetEnt. This game is based on the old classic story about a girl interacting with a wolf in the forest. There is another famous slot machine, based on the same wolf character – Big Bad Wolf. This game was launched back in 2013 and is inspired by another fairy tale – True Story of the Three Little Pigs. As this online slot machine is still very much popular among casino players all over Europe, we don’t believe that Fairytale Legends will become the best wolf themed slot online in long-term. However, this is for sure one of best new releases from NetEnt we have seen in 2016.
Frog Grog by Thunderkick
The disappointment of the month is Frog Grog by Thunderkick. We thought that this new slot would have a frog theme – a theme that is extremely popular amongclassic one-armed bandit fans in Sweden. We expected it to be similar to Mr Toad, Bullfroggin’ or Frog Hunter – replicas of Grodjakten, one of the most played slot games ever, when it comes to Swedish landbased slots. This game available in Vegasautomaten slot machines, placed all over Sweden.
Instead, Thunderkick have decided to make a frog slot with focus on magic potion – grog, which is not the most exciting theme there is. To us who work at Top of Slots Grog is all about alcohol. Creative Thunderkick game designers seem to have decided that if you mix frogs and the booze, out of the blender comes a magic drink. Well, we would prefer to keep those two apart and play a classic frog slot instead.
Frog Grog has still managed to end up fifth in October, however mostly as it was released at the very beginning of the month. There is no chance in the world that this new slot will remain in Top 20 in November.

Slots Supplier Top
October was an extremely successful month for NetEnt. After having a turbulent summer, this Scandinavian giant has regained its positions in Top of Slots. This means that we pretty much have the same total dominance of NetEnt, as was the case in the beginning of this year.
Yggdrasil is back in the game fighting for the second spot with Play’n Go – a Växjö-based company that had a breakthrough year in 2016. Now that only two Top of Slots lists remain to be published this year, it is already more or less clear that they will finish second in overall top list over best slots 2016.
At the same time, Quickspin and NextGen – two slots supplier companies that used to be the main competitors of NetEnt in Nordic casino market, re-enter the charts. They are, however, no longer a threat to NetEnt and seem to be losing big time to both Yggdrasil and Play’n Go. During 2016 these two suppliers have moved to Tier 3 when it comes to popular suppliers of slots and are mainly competing with Thunderkick and Microgaming.
