June 2016 – Top of Slots

Summer is here. This month was not really about summer as such. Everything in the world of gambling and slots centered around Euro 2016 in France. This did not affect the main rule Top of Slots: Starburst is a winner.

The rule that was broken, though, is that the new slot from NetEnt comes second. This time Yggdrasil’s new football slot Bicicleta managed to kick down Football Champions Cup and the new circus slot release from NetEnt – Theme Park: Tickets of Fortune.

We are not sure what the reason for having long slot names is. NetEnt are really into calling their slots as if they were sequels. This goes for quite a few latest releases except this one – Fantasini: Master of Mystery and Drive: Multiplier Mayhem all have a colon. This appositive colon is normally used for separating the subtitle from the original title. The problem is that this is the original title and there is no need to use any colons whatsoever. OK, let’s leave this to NetEnt and their copywriter team and continue going through June results.

Fire Joker is the new slot from Play’n Go – a company that seems to be growing and has released a bunch new slots straight after Amsterdam conference with more to come next weeks. The activity level we see makes us suspect that they are preparing to sell the company to someone. The consolidation within iGaming industry is still growing. On May 24 we got news about Playtech acquiring Quickspin. It will be interesting to see if our prediction about Play’n Go acquisition or some other structural change was right. We bet this will happen in September or October, but we have no idea about their potential partners.

Quickspin’s Spinions is an interesting slot title that we think will do better as soon as the football craze is over. The same goes also for Poltava from ELK Studios launched in the very end of the month. We believe that both this slots will do better in Top of Slots in July.

King of Pop from SG Interactive gained seven positions and finished number 8. This seems to be the last month on the charts for MJ. Both Jimi Hendrix and Chilli Gold 2 are the losers of June. It happens rarely that we see such a drop.

One last thing about this month worth mentioning is the prominence of DC Comics slots from NextGen/NYX. The acquisition of the assets (Cryptologic) was completed in July 2015. We don’t know the reason of the delay, but these exciting slots including Flash, Batman and Green Lantern have been released only during last few months. As they are many and quite similar to each other, the ranking points get distributed evenly. It is hard for any specific slot to make it to Top 20, however we can feel the presence of DC Comics characters when we compile our Top of Slots.
